After a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer, we lost our founder and dearest mentor Charles Edwards on Friday 27th November 2020. We, at Charles Edwards, lost not only an inspirational leader, but an extraordinary, wonderful, and kind human being. His legacy continues to guide and inspire us as we pursue his dream of creating beautiful Alabaster lighting.
Charles Edwards launched his business in 1992 at 582 Kings Road, London. A BADA member, Charles began in the 1970’s by selling English and French antique furniture and lighting.
Now considered one of the leading designers and manufacturers of 19th and 20th Century inspired lighting, Charles developed a recognisable style in his design collection.
He would occasionally find rare examples of large scale alabaster work in his antiques business. Recognising their rarity and versatility Charles used his design and manufacturing knowledge to develop a range of fully customisable hanging alabaster dish lights.
In 2003 the collection was launched and has steadily grown over the years. Inspired by original antique pieces the range encompasses the simplicity of the deco with the fine carving work found in the Victorian era.
Now available through Charles Edwards Heritage Limited, led by Ella Rose Genty, Charles’ Alabaster business manager of 15 years. The collection is exclusively displayed at the 19A Rumbold Road Showroom in London, which he used to fondly refer to as Across the Road.
